Galileo Galilei was born February 15th, 1534. We like celebrating birthdays of famous scientists, or at least making a worthy mention of them, because putting science and technology into a historical context helps to reinforce the scaffolding for practical and theoretical understanding in STEM fields. This practice also puts forth role models who have made a significant contribution to society; I'm not sure one can say that of most role models from pop culture and media.
